Way off-topic threads

We (the moderator team) have agreed that we need to start reigning in some of the more extreme off-topic threads here.

For this reason you may find that off-topic discussions areas that were previously allowed will now not be permitted.

The core forum areas are those in the "Specific Vintage Equipment" heading, and for established members we allow their modern equivalents in the "Modern Technology". Related subjects such as offered and wanted messages, groups clubs and societies etc are of course also part of that.

Anything beyond that is pushing the boundaries. The boundaries have been fairly elastic, but will be tightening them going forward.

These well off-topic threads are often the ones that cause the most work and problems for the mod team, and make us wonder what it's even doing here!

For most of those topics there are more suitable forums elsewhere, where you are more likely to find people who have the knowledge and experience to answer the queries.

You wouldn't post on a vintage car forum, a modern white goods forum or an electrical wiring forum about repairing a vintage radio or television and expect to get useful replies. It's the same the other way around.

Please don't be offended or upset if we close a new thread on a subject that has been allowed in the past. Please understand what we are trying to do.
