Default Wanted source of small speaker for walkie talkie

Looked in the usual places but they are all shown as 36mm

The original seems to be 1.25 inches or 32mm give or take a smidge.

It won't be easy to fit anything bigger as it fits into a moulding.

16 ohms any pointers ?

Cheers

Hi Andy I don't have it to hand but it's about 6mm I will measure it lunch time.

Hi Nick yes I have been hunting around but most I have found so far are too big to fit

Cheers

Hi Guy that's very generous but the diameter is just too big.

Thanks Mike yes it's a very odd size I may have to fit a smaller speaker I will give it a day or two

Cheers

Thanks for all the suggestions guys looks like I will have to use 8 ohm with a series resistor.

I am sure it will make little difference.

Cheers

I think for someone's loudspeaking telephone we found a headphone driver of the right size and impedance. Might be a useful search term.

Hi Mike
I've got one which is 28mm diameter by about 4mm deep, 8 ohm if that's any good. FOC.
Cheers

That sounds like my QWERTYphone.

It was certainly suggested that a headphone driver would be worth considering. However I found the exact speaker, misdescribed, on Ebay. I have no idea what it was originally used for.

When I say 'misdescribed', the impedance of the one on Ebay was quoted as 16 ohms, which was lower than I really wanted but I decided that it would be easier to modify the electronics than the case parts. When it came, the DC resistance was around 25 ohms which was ideal... So I was _very_ lucky.

Of course this doesn't help with the current problem.

Hi Mike,
you are welcome to this one if its any good, still fitted to a small walkie talkie case, Motorola YTR446.
16 ohm, seems about the right size.

The speaker Peter sent has arrived but is 36mm so doesn't fit

I wish to say a big thank you to Peter for his efforts.

As I said before it fits into a moulding so not at all easy to fit a larger speaker.

I have ordered three 8ohm ones from China for 99p so fingers crossed.

In the mean time if anyone has a speaker 16 ohm no more than 32mm diameter and 5mm deep I am still looking

It comes from a Motorola TLKR T40

These are only about 40 a pair new I fished these out of the WEEE bin in the lab at work.

I hate things being disposed of prematurely.

Cheers

Just to finish this one off finally the speakers arrived from China and I fitted one with 10 ohm resistor in series. It's a perfect mechanical fit and although a wee bit quieter seems to work fine.
Just 99p inc postage

All ready for the grand children to play with

From a fellow grandchild minder, "a wee bit quieter" is an added bonus
