I am tempted, if the trains aren't all flooded!

Is the auction list going up somewhere soon?

Just going by the past few events and the weather isn't going to help the Auction catalogue is usually out between 3 and 7 days before the event.

For example the last Harpy it came out on the 19th September for the 22nd September event.

RWB on the 8th Dec catalogue came out on the 1st Dec

It's a lot of work for Mike and the crew, so I try to make my travel decision not based on the auction alone

Cheers

This weather is not helping matters as all auction lotting and van loading is done outside.

The way things are going the sets will be pre converted into fish tanks complete with water

I have been given permission to attend by SWMBO so unless there's a major family problem I expect to be there.

Cheers

...and just a reminder about how the Bring & Buy works at Harpenden.

We are no longer in the foyer but inside the hall itself, probably on the banked seating area at the back. You can still leave stuff with us during setting up as we'll have a booking-in table in one of the doors to the main hall.

There are 2 ways to sell stuff on the B&B.

1: Donation with 100% of proceeds going to the Dulwich Vintage Wireless Museum. No need for admin for labels, lists etc and the museum takes all the proceeds.

2: Sales with 10% commission to the Museum. If you have more than a couple of items it helps us a lot if you can make a numbered list with prices. With corresponding numbered price labels stuck on the items. We then add a serial letter (eg your No 3 becomes C3). We can do labelling/listing on the day but it really slows things down for everyone at busy times. Please use the attached listing sheet, to help us.

You can fill in the "offers" box for each item if you want to accept a lower than asking price. But we'll get the best price we can!

We close the B&B when the auction starts (approx 1pm) but if you've sold anything you can collect the proceeds at any time. Please remember to collect unsold items well before the auction starts. Unsold donated items are sold off or given away at the end, but do collect if you can!

You've all been fabulously generous in the past, often raising £400 or more on the day, so let's hope for another big donation to the Museum this time.

See you all on the 8th.

Attached is the first pass at the Harpenden auction catalogue so everyone gets to see the first 250 lots a week ahead of time.

There will be quite a lot more added between now and the event next week. There are also a couple of other car loads arriving on the day which Mike has not yet received lists of but he does know they include some 1960's TVs.

We will post an updated auction catalogue at the end of this coming week if there are significant additions.

EDIT: Updated catalogue in post #18, older version removed from this post to avoid confusion.

Lot 177 Qty of Radios and T.Vs is intriguing.... Transistors and portables ?
This is a bit worrying though.....

Perhaps a large concentration of the elderly is not the best idea! Personally I think the risk is being blown out of all proportion by bored media outlets. Despite discussions about the case/fatality ratio, it's hardly Spanish Flu as it isn't causing disproportionate deaths among the younger cohorts. And all those silly masks! Just wash your hands...

I wonder if 'quantity' means 'bring your own van'!

There is of course a serious issue there - at some point if the number of cases increases, public gatherings would be unwise. Presumably we are nowhere near that point, but it well to be aware of the risk, even if very small. And slightly alarming to hear there has been a case in Harpenden.

The number of people at Harpenden is normally no more than a reasonably busy pub (but spread around a larger area), and there is no talk of closing pubs or restricting other similar sized gatherings.

If Government or NHS guidelines change to discourage or restrict gatherings of this size over the next week then the BVWS committee will obviously consider the situation and act as appropriate, but this seems highly unlikely.

If people are concerned then of course they can decide for themselves not to attend, and I wouldn't be surprised if numbers are down a bit on usual.

Let's leave it at that now, and look forward to a good Sunday event.

Great Mike, we're looking forward to a great swap meet and auction!

And the BVWS AGM is in the side hall at 12pm, do come in and join us, we have an open Q&A session after the formalities, the committee will be only too pleased to answer any questions or suggestions that you may have regarding YOUR society!

Auction to start promptly at 1pm, there will be about 300 lots and our auctions agent will speed through them in his usual slick manner - "Come on, it's only money......!'

All good clean fun for a Sunday, see you there!
