Wiring Ronette 284-ov
Hi there,
I have a Garrard Autoslim with a Ronette 284-ov mono cartridge. I cant find any markings on the cartridge in terms of wiring. I assume the red/green wire from tonearm is channel/ground. There is sound either way, but trying to figure out when cartridge is in phase. I am playing through a Pye suitcase player, so a bit difficult to hear the difference, though one way it seems louder. Anyone know how the cartridge should be connected correctly? When in 33/45 position I have green wire from Autoslim at the top, red wire underneath. Reads Ronette on right side of cartridge, left side 284-ov upside down. |

Re: Wiring Ronette 284-ov
If it's mono it really doesn't matter since the cartridge is electrically floating and phase isn't relevant either. If it sounds better one way round, go with that!

Yes, as Chris says, with a plastic-bodied mono cartridge, it makes no difference.
The concept of phasing with cartridges is only relevant with stereo ones. Wire it whichever way round is most convenient (e.g. in terms of which wire is longest etc.). Nick. |

Yes OK, but there still seems to be a difference in sound/depth. But explains why they haven't marked wiring. Thanks

Don't forget this is a Mono cartridge with a Mono LP stylus. It's not intended to be used for Stereo records. It should give a good high output on mono pressings.
