Display of Vintage Televisions

Does anyone remember this event? The HMV901 with its loudspeaker removed is obvious, not sure about the next one but the third is a Baird T5 and the fourth might be another T5. The second one might be an Ekco TSC902. The HMV901 looks to have veneer damage bottom left. I think this must be an exhibition of vintage televisions.

Not wishing to lessen the importance of sourcing the photo, my school assembly room/theatre with space below the stage to store chairs etc. looked just like the stage on the photo as it would in many schools.

With only a few sets shown and, importantly the side removed from the first TV for the technically curious makes me wonder if this was a very local event and not a Radio show with the new media on also on show.

Hi Chris,

You could be right. I don't think the sets are actually on the stage so the stuff beneath would be in front of the stage.

At first glance I thought the TV's were on the stage. Then I realised that is not the case, also there seems to be a person extreme left of the photo. I took part in a display organised by RSGB members in the early 90s at my old High School. The stage was not used on that occasion, we were in the entrance foyer. Had a very enjoyable weekend on that occasion.

Jac spotted that the second set has its knobs down the side of the screen so possibly a KB780.

I wondered if the fourth set might be an RCA RR359 because its height is about right if the set to its left is a T5 and it appears to have projections on the left and right of its lid. It also has a lid prop on the left.

Thanks John, The chair appears to have something cylindrical on it with letters and numbers on it. ??4W2 ??

Graham, You might be right about a father and son or even two sons.

I'm having second thoughts about the third one being a T5 but I can't think what else. Perhaps a radiogram?? It doesn't appear to have the sloping control panel and the speaker bars don't look quite right.

The sets are not all standing on the same base heights because the KB cabinet is only 1" higher than the HMV901.

I've just done a reverse image search. It's apparently a 1949 display at the studios of the Japanese Broadcasting Company in Tokyo. If you look carefully the folks in the pic are distinctly oriental. It's an AP photo archive picture.

Brilliant Kevin! I did think the guys could be oriental but didn't think it relevant and I wondered if the middle guy was wearing a small Jewish cap.

I did know how to do this but I thought it had changed in recent times to only give "similar" images but I see it does still work. It just didn't happen to find what I was looking for at the time.
