When I used to do my own traditional photographic developing and printing, I found that exhausted fixer would silver plate copper and brass quite effectively.

I have got a blocked gas pipe waiting for when I need to do some copper plating.
It is pre-loaded with plating crystals and will make a very good anode.

Finalised these repairs with 8BA brass nuts from 'maccmodels'. The 8BA c/s machine screws also needed were salvaged from the rear of a scrap universal avominor- the type with a supplementary resistor pack on the back. Precisely the correct length.
