Default Transistor Help

I Need an equivalent transistor for a C458 this is definitely a C458 i cant seem to find an eq or may be it's just me can any one help please i would be grateful. it is on an Akai X1800DS reel to reel recorder

Try 2SC458.

From memory it's a general purpose NPN silicon transistor used in a lot of Japanese kit.

Any of the jellybean types should sub for it - BC548, 2N3904 etc. - but you will need to allow for the different leadouts.

That's probably a 2SC458, a very common transistor back in the day, various refs for substitutes on Google.

I've used the BC549 as a replacement in an Akai tape deck observing the different pin layout. The original 2SC458s have a habit of going noisy.
