What does this sticker mean?
Just finished an Elizabethan machine with a Collaro deck. All rumbling nicely now.
However I spotted this sticker on the deck and wondered what it meant? Armour is spelt the British way - i.e. correctly - so it must have been applied in this country. But what does it mean? |

Although American, it is spelt correctly :https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IIT_Research_Institute
They must have held a patent for something used on that deck. |

Re: What does this sticker mean?
I've seen similar labels referring to the Armour Research Foundation inside wire recorders, which I've always assumed was due to the use of Armour standardized spools and possibly the wire recording technology itself.

Marvin Camras was the brains behind Armour Research Institute. He was a pioneer in magnetic recording.

Re: What does this sticker mean?
Interesting. This machine dates from 1962, so it would have been one of the last to use the Armour label, as the Wiki article says it changed to IITRI in 1963. The deck is the common 'Studio' type.
