Default AVO Valve Data Manual 23rd edition in OCR PDF format!

Hi All,

Files that can be used on a Mac can be found in post #14

This has taken a lot longer than I first anticipated, don't know how many years now, but here it is finally!

The forum software does not seem to understand split zip-files so I had to rename the last two parts with a .zip extension, just rename them to .z01 and .z02 so that you can extract the PDF-file.

Megger has kindly let me publish this OCR-version of the 23rd edition of the AVO Valve Data Manual. It contains the copyright notice they told me to add, which I have written in the PDF-file but I repeat the whole text here below.

----------
AVO Valve Data Manual 23rd edition, OCR version

This is an OCR version of the 23rd edition of the AVO Valve Data Manual. Much effort has been put into making this manual a reality and I hope it will be useful for everyone.

This manual is probably still as full of errors as the original manual but some obvious errors have been corrected, like data showing up in the wrong column or row, but most of the original data is intact. A lot of effort has been put into proof reading the OCR-version by myself but also by my friend Euan MacKenzie. Valve data which had brackets surrounding two or more rows have been converted into separate rows. I will not write more on this as I am sure to invoke Murphy’s Law or Muphry’s Law if I do!

I have centered the tables on each page so that it will be easy to read on a computer, it is still possible to print the VDM but there is no margin adjustment for even and odd pages. I’ve also made every second row grey in the tables so it will be easier to follow them while reading the data.

Megger has kindly let me publish this OCR version of the manual. This manual therefore contains the text “© Copyright Megger Limited” on all pages and also the following copyright notice by Megger:

“© Copyright Megger. Megger retains copyright in all text, still images, moving images and sound recordings ('Marketing Assets') where they were originally created by AVO, Megger or other legacy or associated companies of Megger Limited. Reproduction of the Marketing Assets must be accompanied by the caption "Copyright Megger Limited". These conditions must also be agreed by the third party to whom this copyright information may be passed.

Megger reserves the right to revoke this licence should the Marketing Assets be used for a purpose which at its absolute discretion Megger deems unacceptable.”

You are therefore bound by the usual copyright rules and are not allowed to reprint or sell this manual in any form whatsoever.

This manual in its PDF-file format is fully searchable in all text and data fields except for in the pictures.

----------

/Martin

Martin, WOW!

I have an original issue 23, so will not need it, but for those who do, WOW!

I have done quite a few documents for forums, especially Ducati stuff, but NEVER anything this big.

WOW!

Les.

Hi All,

First put all three files in a folder, then you need to rename the two files:

AVO_VDM_23RD_Valve_Data-Manual-OCR-20150222.z01.zip -> AVO_VDM_23RD_Valve_Data-Manual-OCR-20150222.z01

and

AVO_VDM_23RD_Valve_Data-Manual-OCR-20150222.z02.zip -> AVO_VDM_23RD_Valve_Data-Manual-OCR-20150222.z02

Now double click on the AVO_VDM_23RD_Valve_Data-Manual-OCR-20150222.zip file, then you should be able to unzip them (if you have a zip program that works with WinZip 11.2 files).

I checked it myself right now and it works for me.

Les,

Thank you for the kind words!

You are lucky to have an original 23rd edition, it is the only one that I am missing from my collection!

Even if you own the 23rd edition it might be a good compliment to have the OCR PDF file if you have a computer nearby when you use your valve tester, and you'll also spare your original book from use.

Hats off for the amount of work you clearly have put into this. Very nice.

I don't have an AVO tester but I downloaded the files and WinRAR pulled out the PDF without any problems.

Good work Martin! I bought a very nice re-print of the 23rd edition from a nice Dutch chap a couple of years ago, but it is already coming apart at the spine from use!
Thank you very much for doing this huge bit of work.
All the best
Jeremy

Martin,

that's exactly what these enormous list type documents need. Thanks a lot for doing all that work. And even more for sharing it free of charge to everyone. Some people would have shoved it on Ebay and charged as much as poss - whatever Megger might have said about it....

Nick,

Have you downloaded the Mac version of WinZip from http://www.winzip.com/mac/en/index.html and checked if that works?

I don't own a Mac and I don't know anyone who can help me to check the files right away.

I just remembered that I have a colleague at work who owns a Mac. I phoned him and he experienced the same problem with the Zip-files.

He then tried to make a split RAR-archive with WinRar and that worked just fine to unzip on his Mac. Unfortunately I can't add RAR-files as attachments to the post here as the forum software does not allow that file ending.

I have therefore attached three files which have had the file ending .zip which then needs to be renamed on the Mac to their original file endings which are .rar for all three files, just remove the .zip ending. I am not sure if that works for Mac users or not but it is worth a test - I can download them on my PC and rename them and unpack them though.

Martin,

Thank you. That worked perfectly on my Mac.

And thank you for the simply enormous amount of work that must have gone into this.

I must add my thanks as well. I have several different editions of the manual, all of them are now "loose-leaf" versions This pdf will become a standard reference work.
