Info on transformers branded FP Manchester ?
A colleague on another forum has acquired a Williamson amplifier (homebrew, I think) with a power supply based on mains transformers and choke branded FP Manchester. Given the very high 580-0-580 secondary voltage of the HT transformer these might well have been 're-purposed' from another piece of kit.
Does anyone know of this manufacturer ? I had a look through the Williamson amp reprint brochure from Wireless World and there are ads for quite a few transformer suppliers in there. But not FP. There are a few more high-resolution pictures here https://audioabattoir.com/t/transfor...any-ideas/6600. The possibility of Ferranti Packard was raised but doesn't seem likely (very different construction style and branding). Cheers, GJ

Re: Info on transformers branded FP Manchester ?
Ferguson Pailin was a big employer in Openshaw, East Manchester. I am surprised they made these small transformers, most of their products were National Grid and similar huge constructions.Eventually part of Alstom and closed , part of the large works still exists in other uses. Several of my former colleagues served their apprenticeships and/or worked there.

Re: Info on transformers branded FP Manchester ?
I suppose it's possible that they bought them in from another part of AEI for use in some larger FP project and had them branded FP for the sake of presenting an integrated look to the customer. My colleague who acquired the amp said it came from the estate of someone who worked for BTH (also part of AEI) and I suppose he might have 'liberated' these transformers from there for home use.
Cheers, GJ
