Default Grundig 9078 with PE Rex

Hello Everyone

I recently purchased a beautiful Grundig 9078 / USA and the turntable is a PE Rex. It spins but needs repair which I've been reading might be a nightmare and not worth the effort?

Do I have any other options to swap it out with another unit (can be from another brand like Dual) that's plug-and-play?

Thanks for the help!

No more (or less!) complicated than many other turntables. Look on vinylengine for the service manual and lots of information on what other people had to do to get their's going.

A quick search in the box above shows a couple of threads on this deck.

Good luck, hope that helps.

"The case with their's is simple: it doesn't exist.

How embarrassing

Thanks.

Can we stop discussing spelling etc. please. Such discussions have lead to a lot of ill feeling in the past.

I would second the idea of repairing what you have. Even if you were to put in another, who is to say that this new unit won't also need a strip down after 40 years? Duals certainly do, I have worked on dozens. There is no such thing as plug and play with vintage audio. That is the language of the digital age!

A Garrard Series "A" autochanger would make for an ideal contemporaneous unit in this. These decks were highly demanded in Canada in the late 1950s, so there may be some out there awaiting a good home.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I've taken the unit out and will be taking it for repair this week. I've also started looking at Garrard Series "A" units just in case.
