Garrard Spring
Hi, I have this nice at60, where the spring pulling the idler wheel seems like it has been streched at some point. The record player is a bit slow on start too. If anyone with a similar type of deck can check if this is normal that would be much help! Thanks

Re: Garrard Spring
Both springs look OK to me. Usually if there is a lack of tension, there's a gap where the spring should be compessed. Slow to start signals a lack of use and a need for lubrication. This is comprehensively covered in the Stickys up above (see GarrardAutoslim, SP25.)

Which thread is that Edward? It helps if you post a link.

Re: Garrard Spring
Thanks, motor, idler wheel and bearing assembly has been cleaned and lubricated. Everything runs good.

Re: Garrard Spring
The one on the pulley bracket is very slightly elongated but as long as it works then leave it alone.

Re: Garrard Spring
Probably stating the obvious unnecessarily, but you have cleaned and de-greased the inner rim where the idler bears?

Re: Garrard Spring
Now if that was a record player I was repairing, I would cut off some of the stretched coil and using thin nosed pliers make a new open loop to go over the idler hook.

Re: Garrard Spring
Seeing as the OP has stated in post #4 that he's cleaned and lubricated everything and it's all now up and running, then there's no need to start messing up springs, especially as the springs in the picture in the first post both look perfectly good to me - in my opinion, anyway.

Re: Garrard Spring
Yes I have years of experience with servicing these decks. But that springs just caught my eye, but I think I will leave as is until I get a hold on another at60 deck.
