Receiver Output Limiter Component
Can anyone suggest what the tubular components are in this little unit, please?
I'm not sure how its meant to be used, but as it has a jack plug on a flying lead and a jack socket, I'm guessing just in line with a pair of headphones. As the devices are marked red at one end and blue at the other, I'm thinking maybe some sort of diode, maybe akin to a Westector? Many thanks, Andy |

Re: Receiver Output Limiter Component
I think they will be diodes, probably it's some form of speech clipper.

Re: Receiver Output Limiter Component
I think they are copper oxide rectifiers. I took some apart once.

Re: Receiver Output Limiter Component
Having them a) with an end mark, b) back to back and c) two different types I would go along with it being a limiter.

Also the circuit is merrily in parallel with the jack.

Re: Receiver Output Limiter Component
Thanks, I was thinking copper oxide diodes/rectifiers, hence I wondered if they are similar to Westectors.

Re: Receiver Output Limiter Component
Not for speech clipping, these things are to stop hearing damage from static crashes when people are wearing sensitive headphones. Some receivers have adjustable noise clippers, but some don't.

Re: Receiver Output Limiter Component
They're stacks of diodes in those paxolin tubes. They look like a smaller version of the high-voltage diodes used in a Beethoven shotfiring exploder.
Little coppery-looking discs, like tiny sweeties. ('scuse the technical description. ).

Re: Receiver Output Limiter Component
One interesting detail is that there are two versions with different stores numbers, so they must have different characteristics. I wonder if they were specially made or had commercial equivalents?

I wonder if they are Sentercel types.
