Default Radione R2 - as received

I have just received this beauty. Although it powers up it has some issues.
One of the electrolytics has been replaced by a group of caps that measures 16uF
I think there is also a burst condenser
Also the last band doesn’t work, as the wire is cut inside ☹️

I will shoe yo how it comes up

The electrolytic condensers should be 32uF according to the schematic
It is weird that the big one on my radio is 25UF and the bunch of caps all together make 16uF... a total of 31uF

The EZ11 can work with a reservoir capacitor of 32uF providing the supply resistance is 600 Ohms.

If you exceed the 32uF limit or reduce the supply resistance you run the risk of damaging the rectifier.

25 + 16 = 41uF.

I would disconnect the 16uF capacitor bunch and just use the 25uF capacitor.
Are the capacitors healthy? Faulty capacitors could damage the mains transformer.

Make sure the mains fuse is 1A.

I bought a Radione R3 when I was a teenager. Good luck with this restoration.

Thank you for your reply!

So how can this unit work with only 32uF cap and not the other? Is the other cap dealing with other part of the circuit, the one used in the 6v power section?

I will change the electrolytic caps. I am planing to replace the 25uF and 16uF by 33uF and 33uF at 400/450v (or x2 16uF in paralel)

regards!

Sorry, I misunderstood.

I assumed that someone had wired the 16uF bunch of capacitors in parallel with the 25uF capacitor.

I now assume that one capacitor is the reservoir, and the other is the smoothing capacitor.

Two new 32uF capacitors will be fine.
