Stella ST110u Knobs won't come off.
Hello
Seems I’ve fallen at the first fence with this one, Nice clean set, so I set off to take apart… Can’t seem to move the tuner knob, so moved on to the volume and selector knobs, got the nylon grub screws out without trouble, but knobs will not shift! Before I start applying heat, lubricants and or levers, any wise words or suggestions Philip |

I often use car trim removal tools on stubborn knobs. Use a V shape plastic pry bar at either side of the knob and apply even pressure.

Live chassis set, are there metal grub screws under the nylon blanking insulating grub screws?
Never seen a knob held solely by a nylon screw. |

I find wrapping a couple of turns of string around the shaft behind the knobs and pulling helps free them. i wouldn't advise heat.

Re: Stella ST110u Knobs wont come off
I have a proper knob puller that I use for my guitar repairs work. Ok, it's expensive and you have to import it from the US, but there are copies and cheaper alternatives about. You can even make one, just study the photos, there's not a lot to them. But the point is, unlike a length of string (which may well work) they lift evenly all around the knob, thus helping greatly to avoid breaking old, brittle knobs.

It is a good job you asked rather than try force, I might have been fooled by that myself.

Does the centre of the tuning knob unscrew or pull out to reveal a screw?

Re: Stella ST110u Knobs wont come off
The radiomuseum site says it's similar to the Cossor CR1200U. The manufacturer's service sheet for that (available 'up top' and on the DVD-ROM) includes the instructions :
'Remove the volume and waverange control knobs (insulation plugs and grub screws) Pull off the tuning knob Remove the scale cover by unscrewing the 2 fixing screws and pull off pointer' [I hope that's acceptable within the forum rules] |

Thanks everybody for the help and information
All three knobs are now off, without damage. As always, very grateful for the depth and width of knowledge and experience on the forum .....and the speed! Kind regards Philip |
