French HMV
Does anyone have any info about this French HMV T204, or know where I can get service information? I've drawn a blank on the RadioMuseum site. Is it an 819-line set? I attach a picture I have been sent.
Thanks, Steve

Re: French HMV
French HMV stuff is usually badged as "La Voix de Son Maitre" or "Pathe Marconi" :-
http://819lignes.free.fr/Chronologie...e_Marconi.html Can't find a T204 anywhere though... Regards, Mick. |

Hi Panrock,
i nabbed your photo and posted a request on the French forum RadioFil. Watch the replies here: http://retro-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=236103 You may need a login inscription to see/download photos & schematics; do it! it's free of course and don't you have to talk.. If you have the photos as separate shots and not just the single composite photo, larger sized documents will increase chance of a positive ID. Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |

Re: French HMV
Hi Panrock,
Looked up the thread today, only 2 replies, France is on holidays in august and i guess many forum members are away at the beach. Myke has an HMV T174 and comments that the rear panel looks quite similar to his. He is requesting, if possible a photo of the chassis. Alas, he is looking for info for his T174 so no help there. Another follower, JCM, comments that text seems to be in english on your T204 TV and is wondering if your TV was indeed built in France - does it say so somewhere? HMV, Pathé Marconi and La Voix de son Maitre was a multinational conglomerate i don't know if TVs were built in one location (UK or France) for the three commercial labels names or if there were national factories in each country? If HMV built in the UK, i doubt that it would show up on french shores as the HMV name verbatim was never used on TVs sold in France. Anyone know something about HMV factory locations? Best Regards jhalphen Paris/France |

Re: French HMV
Jerome, you are indeed going to a lot of trouble over this, for which I thank you.
I do not have the set in my possession; I only have the pictures sent to me by a prospective customer in England. Looking at these, there does appear to be a mixture of French and English on the back, with the warning texts in French and the control labels in English. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than me can tell us some more about the history of HMV in France? Please pass on my thanks to those helpful posters on the French forum if you get the chance. Steve

Re: French HMV
Certainly La Voix de son Maître portable gramophones (102 etc) appear to have been made in the UK as the soundbox states 'Fabriqué en Angleterre'.
Don't know if that has any bearing on their TVs however! |

Re: French HMV
Hi Jerome and Steve,
I have two interesting French HMV TV sets which were kindly donated to me by Wilfrid (wiwi.or) Both receivers will receive my attention sometime in the future when this shop closes. Both are attractive sets in the sense of appearance and technical interest. They are the type T1031 and the 17" model without a model designation, (the modele inconnu). The latter set should display superb pictures on account of it's four stage IF amplifier with full bandwidth. 819 lines of course, the worlds first HD system. I still have a number of 819 sets available for forum members. DFWB. |

Re: French HMV
Panrock, Steve,
Try to coax the seller to snap more shots of his TV or send the ones making up the "Calico" as separate shots as a starter. With typical bluntness linked to my US half, i would say: if he wants to sell his TV he can Bl**** well do at least some work! Best Regards JH/Paris |

Re: French HMV
Hi Steve,
Your set is (maybe/might be) a belgian 819-line set and not a french. A set like this was offered to me a longer time ago in Belgium. Since the mid 50s HMV sold TVs in Belgium. The question is, is it a 2,3,4, standard set? "Low price" TVs had only 2 standards, for Belgium only (625 & 819 lines, both AM-sound). Sets with a HMV logo in France are new to me. Please google for frequency details. Best regards, German Dalek

The article mentioned that Belgium could switch between 819 and 625 signal sources at times. Hugh |
