Has anyone got a couple of reel to reel tape deck retaining nuts as in pic below please?

Hi Andy
If you are unable to obtain nuts for recorder, you could use rubber grommets or if you know the thread this could be the answer?

A skirted knob with a small enough shaft hole could be tapped or helicoiled and would look the part nicely.

Also maybe the knob from certain types of saucepan lid?

Lots of scope for diabolical artifice, methinks

Thanks John, threads bound to be imperial, Whitworth or BA, but those may be able to be tapped.

Some good ideas Chris, will have to get my cape and grow a pointy moustache : )

Andy.

I looked at the photo and thought ... ah, 7" spools and a threaded retainer stub... He's gone really posh, he's got himself a Nagra... we're all going to have to call Andy 'Sir' from now on.

But that would have meant metric, not whit or BA threads.

Judging from the photo, the thread looks much too coarse for BA or Metric, probably 1/4" Whitworth (which is 20 TPI), or 1/4-20 UNC. These are the sizes used for most amateur camera tripods and in practice interchangeable unless heavy tightening is required.

Quick update, used tap washers in the end, not elegant but do the job.
