Default GPO 746 On/Off switch and ringing light

Hey all,

I'm wondering if I can makeshift something which approximates to:
  • Having an on/off switch
  • An external light which flashes on/off when the switch is in the 'off' position

For the on/off switch, I've read the following:

https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=141777

I am not certain though what type of switch I'd need, in conjunction with the plastic switch I seemingly can puchase here:

https://www.britphone.net/gpo-transp...tton-218-p.asp

Is there a complete "kit" I can buy which has the switch assembly as well as the switch itself? If not, is there some other kind of DIY assembly I can try instead?

As for the "external light" -- I'm aware of Handset No. 7:

https://www.britishtelephones.com/hands7.htm

I'm curious if, without that specific handset, but an on/off switch, whether it would be possible to create some external housing, containing a light bulb which would achieve the same thing.

Thanks all for your help -- and if there's anything I've not been clear on, please le me know.

Otherwise I look forward to your replies and help.

Thanks again!

Thomas

If I understand correctly, you wish to be able to switch ringing between the bell and a light, in which case you will require a switch, locking, change-over. See https://www.britishtelephones.com/switch1.htm for a list of available switches (with some images).

For your external flasher, your best option is probably a small neon with a suitable series resistor connected in place of the ringer when the switch is in the appropriate state.
