Beosound Ouverture
I am repairing one of these with a CD fault. It uses the CDM12 laser. The fault was that the CD would not even spin up, I have replaced the laser with one that has the chip, not the copies, I've also replaced the two capacitors on the board 330uF and 100uF. I found the flexible cable to the motor broken so I carefully repaired that.
Now the CD does spin, but not fast enough and after a few seconds it stops. Can anyone help me? |

Re: Beosound Ouverture
When my Technics CD started doing this I put a drop of oil on the spindle bearing. 19 years later it's still working fine!

I discovered that there are several versions of this basic drive. Granny sucking eggs here, but please make sure you have the right one...

Re: Beosound Ouverture
The 'one with the chip' i the CDM-12.4 (VAM12.4) and I have had 0% sucess rate with the Chinese copies available from various places.
The one without the chip is the CDM12.1 (VAM 12.1) and I have had limited sucess with these. The two are not interchangeable so if the original didn't have a chip then fitting one which does will not work. Your OP reads as though you have fitted the one with the chip in replacement for the one without, if I make sense !! I have had these 'new' copy Lasers to have 'incorrect' (certainly different from the one being replaced) Platter Height. Correcting this sometimes cured the problem with the new Laser. Sorry, I can't be more help. I am starting to have to give up repairing CD Players of this sort of vintage for the lack of original spare parts. The copies just not being reliable enough. James. |

Re: Beosound Ouverture
Just to explain, both the original and the replacement both have the chip, I wouldn't have fitted it otherwise.
It was just the laser that was replaced, not the spindle motor or sled mechanism. |

Try getting to the bearing though, I dont think the turntable comes off very easily.

Re: Beosound Ouverture
On the Technics there was a small gap between the platter and the bearing. I think I dipped some fine wire in the oil then carefully used it as a dropper to apply.
