Round Nipper artwork wanted
Hi this might be a bit of an ask.
I've bought an HMV horn gramophone to restore. The horn is solid but the paintwork is a mess from surface rust. It has the remains of a CIRCULAR HMV Nipper label on the horn but the paint is too bad for me to restore. Attached is a photo of the original which measures some 1 1/2" diameter. Has anyone got artwork or even a decent photograph of one of these labels from a similar horn? Thanks in advance. Last edited by Boom; 24th Nov 2012 at 3:38 pm. |

Getting there. I've found this one which is very similar.
Unfortunately the photo was taken at an angle so isn't right. The colours are also slightly different. |

Re: Round Nipper artwork wanted
Here is another one that may help, in png and jpeg.
The png is in a zip archive. Dave |

Here's another example, not very good quality I'm afraid.

Many thanks David. That is not the one. The one on the horn shows Nippers gramophone partly outside of the circle as in David 1's picture but the colours are different in his one.

Dave, bear in mind that yours is probably approaching 100 years old, and was probably protected by a coat of shellac varnish, which has yellowed over the years, making it appear much darker than it would have been originally.

Re: Round Nipper artwork wanted
Indeed Barry. I have also just realised that what I assumed was a black band around the edge of the label could well be yellow which has severely discouraged with age so Daves might well be the correct label after all. I can't see any varnish but there isn't much paint left anyway.

Re: Round Nipper artwork wanted
There are rather to (too) many Davids / Daves here
The outside circle of your original according to my graphics package tends to be in the blue spectrum: Red = 120, Green = 134, Blue = 147 the hex is #788693 It may have been dark blue originally. This may or may not help, could add some confusion though. Dave |
