Default Vintage Prototype CTV Theory Book now available!

Hi!

Can I be permitted to point Members in the direction of:-

https://www.americanradiohistory.com...World-1961.pdf

. .for those who were lucky enough to be able to get pre-1967 prototype CTV receivers - this 518 page book is written in the full Wireless World Format with British Terminology, drawings and circuits in the Iliffe format and British Valve types shown on the example circuits!

Well worth a read and I didn't know of it myself!

First published in 1961 for WIRELESS WORLD by Wife Books Ltd., Dorset House, Stamford Street, LONDON S. E. 1.
In fact by 1961 the writing was on the wall for a 405 line colour system and the future for UK TV broadcasting was to be 625 lines.
Nevertheless, there's a wealth of valuable information in the article.

We used the two Carnt and Townsend books at a CTV course at Philips (in Eindhoven).
The books were long out of print then, so we were supplied with photocopies of them.
I managed to obtain originals later and gave the photocopies away.

I've always found these books very good.

Hi!

For anyone who has f.m. tuners with reactance–valve a.f.c., a full theory of reactance–valve operation is provided in one of the appendices!

Forgotten about that book, the Tech College had one, well worth downloading a copy

Another book from the site is the RCA Colour TV home study course.

Wireless World were heavily biased towards the 405 line system. In the fifties as country after country announced the adoption of 625 (B&W at that point) there would be bleating as to why they hadn't chosen a 'proven' system instead. Eventually there were letters saying in effect 'will you shut up about 405', this seemed to work as the editorial moaning faded away.
