Default Blaupunkt Arkansas

Hi, I’ve just brought this old radiogram. The sliding glass door is missing, any ideas on how I could replace it... Thanks

They used the 'Arkansas' name for lots of radiogrsms in the 50s and 60s. Do you have the exact model number, or failing that a photo?

Any half-decent Glazier can make one for you. Just be precise with your measuring. Use as thick a glass as will fit the sliding grooves above and below.

Hi, I have what looks like the fibre runners. There is also the groove to accommodate the glass. The guy I brought it from said that it broke sometime ago. So now I’m confused, I thought all the deluxe models had a glass door..

I think some models had a glass door with a pattern on it as well as the wood one, like this 4530

The OP may be lucky as his remaining door doesn't appear to to have the usual "milled" recess as a finger grip but maybe I can't see it? It may be difficult to source a replacement "T Bone" but I'd be inclined to take the one you have to a local Glazier and see if they can help. It would have to be toughened glass, for safety and a bit more expensive under modern regulations but it's well worth asking if you plan to sell it on. These more ornate, sometimes "Cocktail Cabinet" Models, seem to have been particularly popular in Germany and amongst the Afro Caribbean Community here in the UK. Best not to just plug it in if you don't know what you are doing though.

If you put the name into the search engine at the top of the page you will see many previous posts including "Should I buy one of these?" and "Great Sound". I suspect that the Tuner Amp section will be of superior quality, maybe stereo-if it works! Look for a model number on the front, back or inside but not with the power on! There's probably a dedicated website somewhere as as well.

Your reply made me smile, as I am Afro Caribbean and my parents has one back in the day
This is the model with the drinks cabinet, with a glass shelf. It’s being to look like I might have to get one made up, the find a sign writer to put the pattern on..

Thanks for that, have already contacted a guy that’s in north London about servicing the record player and the radio.... when we are allowed to travel!
As for the rum, have already tried the drinks cabinet for size!

OK Tony. Let us all have a look when it's sorted. Of course we think it's great to see any vintage item being rescued... hence the site!

Merry Christmas,

Dave

I’ve managed to get the radio and the turntable repaired and serviced, but the restoration is still ongoing. I need to replace the sliding glass for the cabinet, or at least have some idea of the measurements so I can get a replacement made.... would prefer to buy an original if poss..
