Just an update. New Drivers came (they will always be cones to me) easy to fit 4 new holes for each speaker, the split cables were shortened and re used. I didn't use the original method of strain relief on them ( a bolt and 2 washers) as I could see this causing the same problem so I used the knot in the cable and gorilla tape method also fitted new plugs to the other end. They sound great much clearer and they still look original.

These look to be nice co-axial loudspeakers/drive units/cones and with good suspension. Should sound far better and be able to handle more power than the originals!
