You are extremely lucky to have "a Frank Mcvey" near you to help (ENVY). In the end that heated discussion has turned you out a very nice record player.

That portable is not exactly the best looking one I've ever seen but for some strange reason it makes me want one myself.

It's always nice to get feedback on how a project turned out, thanks. What cartridge did you fit in the end?

Purchased and installed a BSR X5M as suggested (NOS one cost £32.99)... only thing I don't have is the metal tri-angular piece that fits on top of it...but it fitted ok but have got to make sure it's sitting straight.......now it sounds great.....well pleased

Nice job on the case, Stu. Did you produce the lettered panel yourself?

What do you have for us next?

Cheers,

Frank

Yes Frank... covered the original chrome panel with chrome self adhesive vinyl and reproduced the lettering... looks good! I tried to clean the original chrome but was not satisfied with how it looked... thanks again Frank for your help with the internals, sounds good now it's all finished

How are you on Juke Boxes, always wanted one... see my other thread plus still need the sort the Hacker radio's... be in touch

You need to line up the cartridge so it it's body is parallel to the sides of the tone arm head. The BSR X5M is just right for this, so I'm glad you are enjoying.

Yes that is what I did... sounds good but not as good as my recently restored Ferguson Five Watt Solid State Record Player. Model No. 3026. Serial No. 017445

No! It will not sound as good. That "Capri" model has a surprisingly (for Decca) small loudspeaker of just 5" diameter.
