Default Radiophile & Radio Bygones Magazine

I have now received the following from Chas. Miller regarding the future of the new combined magazine:

In common with many publishers and other businesses across the UK, we are finding it increasingly difficult to absorb the relentless increase of costs in printing, postage, and fuel. These are a great strain on profitability, and whilst we have always tried to keep price increases to a minimum, we find that we have no choice but to look at increasing our prices for magazine subscriptions.

While the recent incorporation of Radio Bygones into the Radiophile family offers us an increased subscriber base, it also brings challenges - so in order to give the best possible deal to both old and new subscribers, we have decided after very careful thought to implement several changes:

At the moment, Issue 140 of The Radiophile (incorporating Radio Bygones) is in preparation as a 48-page, full colour magazine, to be published in May. We anticipate that one more issue in this format will be published in the Summer, and subsequently we shall move to producing a 64-page full colour magazine three times per year. These will provide subscribers with the same number of pages as the four 48-page issues and the subscription price will remain at £25 per year for UK customers but will reduce considerably the overall Radiophile (incorporating Radio Bygones) postage costs.

For former Radio Bygone subscribers, the slightly increased subscription rate will almost double the total number of pages per year and we hope that this, together will full colour throughout - on high quality paper - will be seen as a worthwhile improvement, well justifying the modest extra cost.

PDF copies of Radio Bygones back issues will continue to be available but, initially at least, we will not be producing CD compilations. All PDF back issues are in stock and are now available through the Radiophile website at £2.50 per copy for immediate download. We are also considering scanning older issues of the Radiophile and offering these as PDFs in due course.

Future PDF subscriptions to Radiophile will be available shortly at £15 per year to reflect the reduced costs inherent in this method of publishing and we hope this will be of interest to our International subscribers in particular as there will be a great saving due to not having to pay postage which is very expensive due to the weight of the combined magazine.

Former Radio Bygones subscribers will be pleased to find that many of the writers who have informed and entertained them in the past will be joining the highly competent Radiophile team of contributors and their work will continue to appear in future issues of the combined magazines.

Auction Catalogues for the Radiophile Auctions normally held at Gnosall and Cowbit are available by subscription at £22 per year for print copies and £12.50 per year for PDFs.

All subscriptions can be ordered / extended by any of the following methods:

1. Payment through our website - www.radiophile.co.uk Simply create a new account and order your subscription. We will link up with any existing account to ensure you receive the correct number of copies. Payment is by credit or debit card via WorldPay, and the entire site is secured for your privacy. Please note that card numbers are not stored, so will need to be entered each time you make a purchase. Once an account has been set up on the website, you can login at any time to renew your subscription, purchase books and other items, or check the status on any outstanding orders.

2. Payment may be made by telephone. Please call 01785 284696 during normal office hours and pay by credit or debit card.

3. Payments can also be made in person at any Radiophile auction or event. Cash, cheque, or card payments are all acceptable. Please see our website for dates and venues.

4. Cheque payments by post are acceptable from UK subscribers only, though card payments are much easier for us to administer and are by far the preferred choice where possible.
