Evesham PVR 160
Does any one have the circuit for this unit . It is dead at first c768 was o/c so I thought dead easy one for a change, but after replacing unit still dead. I then found that D16 was shorted.I cannot read the number on this , looks like 7***. The power Ic is TOP234 . On the printed circuit c715 and a resistor are fitted in parallel with D16 but this have not been fitted by the makers. I have drawn a circuit as far i can trace out. Could any one please suggest a diode that I could replace D16 with
Thanks Derrick Last edited by 1955APREN; 6th Aug 2018 at 3:15 pm. Reason: Typo mod No should be PVR160 |

Re: Evesham per 160
I think the diode is a fast recovery diode. Have a look at this link to the TOP234 data sheet.

Re: Evesham per 160
From your diagram it appears that D16 is the Zener diode shown in the TOP234 application note, and that the other diode, D1 in your diagram, is the fast recovery diode. It looks like you have drawn D1 the wrong way around and the two diodes should be connected with cathodes together.
The data sheet seems to recommend a UF4005 for D1 and a 200V Zener for D16 (BZY97C200) but this latter one rather depends on transformer characteristics (in terms of the actual turns ratio and therefore its "reset" voltage seen at the primary) |

Re: Evesham PVR 160
The Evesham PVR 160 was made by Vestel in Turkey. It uses the T810 chassis.
Other Vestel T810 PVR models: Digihome DTR0207 (Tesco) Digihome PVR80 and PVR160 (Argos) Dual DPVR80 and DPVR160 (Asda) Durabrand DPVR801 (Asda) Goodmans GHD8015F2 Grundig GUSTB80IV and GUSTB160IV Hitachi HDR080 and HDR160 (Argos) Linsar LPVR160 Maplin PVR80 Proline PDFV70 Sharp TUR-160H Techwood PVR80 and PVR160 (Tesco) List taken from https://www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/T810.php What this means is that any of the above models will be the same electrically. Perhaps someone here has one of the above PVRs and can take a look at the power supply board, then tell you the type of diode used. Or maybe someone has a service manual? Although Vestel stuff is known for being cheap and cheerful, to their credit Vestel do publish some service manuals and software updates, which is rare nowadays. |

Re: Evesham PVR 160
Thanks all for good replies all three have been helpfully
Dave thanks for information regarding dater-sheet I have removed diode 1 from the board and it is a BA159 so that means that D16 a 200v zener Dangerman Yes you are correct I have drawn diode D1 the wrong way round( I must be getting old) Hamid1 Thanks for the makers name and list of other mod's I have ordered a 200v zener and will report when fitted Kind regards Derrick |

Re: Evesham PVR 160
Up date
I have replaced D16 with a200v zener and have also replaced D1 BA159 with a new one. When power was applied some voltages on the secondaries diodes came up , but unit still dead . The voltage at the cathode of D23 was only 2.1v replacing the res cap 1000uf 35v for this line brought voltage up to 3.4v . At this point the units green display came on, but it does lots of erratic things 1 Display and video out says disk error , followed by disk cannot be used for recording or play back. 2 By trying a few time unit might go into menu , when it does manual tune can be selected it shows that it is tuning ie in my case CH26 BBC matrix wrekin Tx after tuning the video out on tv only showes the banner at the bottom of the screen no program content or sound but it does show the time. I think this might need a soft ware up but not certain if this still transmitted in the night time these days . I have left unit tonight in my shed connected to aerial two see what will happen in the morning .Please as any one any other suggestions as to what might be wrong Thanks Derrick |

Re: Evesham PVR 160
There won't be any more over-the-air software updates. The DTG Engineering 'channel' has stopped transmitting on Freeview.
You can still update your Evesham PVR manually. Follow this link to download the instructions and the v5.7 BIN file. You will need a serial (RS232) cable and a PC with a serial port or USB RS232 adaptor. I used this method a number of years ago - it worked for me. https://www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/...l_VestelUK.BIN However, I suspect you may have a power supply or hard drive fault. In that case, updating the software won't help. |

Re: Evesham PVR 160
Hamid thanks for all is formation sorry I did not get back B4. You were right about off air updates, and I do not have a computer with rs232
So i have looked further at the power supply board, I checked all the Elec/ cap's and replaced any that are suspect . The following are voltages on the diodes cathode on the Sec side of power supply D25=21.9v see scope trace 404 D24= 5.1 v see.** ** 403 D 23= 3.3v ** ** ** 404 On the main board there is a Regulator ic Lm7808 , But the input pin only as 4.6v on it and is connected back to diode on the power supply board the anode of this goes to the 5.1v line D24.enclosed are three photos of scope traces taken at 50mv/cm and 2us/cm . I would appreciate any further help. Kind regards Derrick |
