I switched on at 6:15 PM BST last night (Fri) and heard radio amateurs on the 6 m band and R1 vision (0 offset), and R2 vision (-ve offset) and sound. R2 on a TV was just about becoming visible but R1, no - too much interference.

Nothing this morning at about 9 AM BST.

There was some 6m radio amateur activity last night at 8pm BST - but nothing on R1 and R2. However E3/A2 vision frequency (55.25 Mc/s) did have something (weak) that sounded like a field buzz - by its varying I don't think it was a lap-top display radiation from a neighbour. This frequency is usually clear.

By the way, why I turned on the DX receiver was because I had been listening to BBC Radio Shropshire on VHF/FM when another transmission (Nordic language) briefly walked across it. So I thought either tropho or reflection from an aircraft or Sp E ? I have listened to programmes from this transmitter many times and not had this effect before.

Yesterday at about 8 pm BST: R1 and R2. R2 sound was from two different programmes. The signal was just strong enough on R2 to see two different pictures swopping. Any R1 picture was swamped by assorted interference.

I could hear weak video signals on R1 and R2 on my handheld scanner but nothing resolved on my tv setup.
Closer investigation reveals that sometime during the winter I had disconnected the aerial leads from the amp to my D100 tuner and the output lead from the D100 wa also pulled out and missing. It took about an hour to sort and link out an aerial amp which I discovered had failed. By the time I had everything up and running the opening had gone.
Hopefully I will be ready for the next opening. It was nice to see R1 clear of baby monitor interference. I use to use two filters so I could see some of the stronger R1 signals but now I can connect the aerial straight into the D100 tuner without any problems. A check with my scanner confirms that the baby monitor channels are now clear with just a few very weak carriers heard.

R1 and R2 yesterday (Tues) evening - not especially strong.

I wonder if we have a few sunspots present on the Sun's disk?

I've been listening out at various times over the last few days - but I may have heard some weak R1 only once.

There has not been much activity in band 1 and I had problems with my SDR not starting so I ended up moving it to another PC so I lost a few days of monitoring.
Propagation has been mostly from the South recently but hopefully we will get some from the East.

This morning (Thurs) I switched on at about 9:30 AM BST and was greeted with fairly strong R1 ( -ve offset). There was some sound as well but less strong. The video part was strong enough to produce pictures above the local interference. It looked like a wide-screen form film was being shown. The opening faded by about 9:45, but when I tried listening again about 11 AM I heard R1 video (-ve offset) but weaker than before - and I could not make a trace of a picture above the interference.

I wonder if this afternoon might be better? In the past, morning, burbling along, activity is often followed by stronger stuff later.

I've been listening out on occasion for the last 6 days and have heard nothing. Have I just simply missed any DX, or has it not been there?

Hi Steve there has been no activity except weak carriers not strong enough for video.
As I do FM-DX as well as TV-DX and propagation has been mainly from South/SE so no good for Band 1 but conditions at the moment is dire so hopefully it will pickup soon.

Thanks Andy
I also received a very quick (20 sec's) burst of R1 16;35 etc while it was on it displayed colour and Dk sound > I think that I might have fault with my aerial as this opening was received on temporary dipole with out a amp connected to a Samsung all mode CRT set .My small Pan BW 5 ins connected to my main aerial did not show this ping. Time to get the ladder out.

Aaah, good to know there is still some DX to be had. I've still been listening on occasions over the last few days and not seen anything.

There was a very weak and brief SpE opening yesterday evening at around 6pm with Ukraine on R1, a pile up on R2 and Russia on R3. Something was trying to show on R4 but was to weak to identify.
At about the same time there was Russian sounding FM stations up to about 89Mhz but to weak to flag any RDS up.

After more days of listening each day at different times of the day, I've still had no joy.

It truly has been Sporadic !
