Unknown tape recorder [Schaub Lorenz 5001]
Just a quickie, not a quiz question, what make was the table radio with a tape recorder built in. It was multi track, the tape couldn't be changed. I want one, what are my chances, ta anyone.

Re: Unknown tape recorder [Schaub Lorenz 5001]
There can be different interests in such a beast. For some the interest is more the unit itself, but for others more the possible 48 hours of radio programmes.
A few years ago I repaired one of these so I could at least play back the recordings because that's what held my fascination. I spent a lot of time sampling the tracks but alas there was very little of interest to me. But there might have been! So if another Schaub Lorenz 5001 comes my way I'll probably repair it too and take the time to see what might have been sitting dormant on that big 4" tape for maybe 55 years. |

Re: Unknown tape recorder [Schaub Lorenz 5001]
YouTuber "Techmoan" did a video on these a while ago: The unique 1960s Hi-Fi systems that became time capsules
When I watched that I realised that my chances of ever owning one had diminished quite a bit, as there was a noticeable jump in the ebay prices that coincided with the release of his video! (The same thing happened when he made videos of the 3M Cantata 700 and Seeburg 1000 background music machines). Like TIMTAPE (and Techmoan), the main reason I've wanted one of these is to see what's on the tape! |

When I had one some years ago , I found the rewinding after twenty minutes annoying ,I thought auto reverse would be a good idea ,the sound quality was superb, I wish I still had it. Mick.

I know they are a bit of a beast to work on, but one option then would be to offer ones repair services to potential new buyers, listening to the recordings in the process ...
