I hate the word 'issue'. The correct word is 'problem'. An issue can be talked about endlessly and never resolved. A problem has to be solved. Maybe this is why it is rarely used these days. No commitment required.

It's a small thing I know but it drives me crazy. How can you have an issue with a telephone pole? I actually overheard the conversation. Grumpy. Regards, John.

Swap on its own is fine, no added trimmings needed.

Denizens of this forum are probably already aware that the prefix Faraday- to everything doing screening gets my goat.

I also dislike the use of the word "issue" where the word "problem" should be used.

Who says? None of the authoritative dictionaries support that view.

Like "footage" from a non film clip, although footage could apply to video tape, not digits... I quite like the new film makers using the term perhaps they may know the history of "footage" and realise how hard is was to make a film in times past.

The new use of wireless as in WiFi etc. has made searching on the internet a bit hard for vintage radio.

I also get wound-up when the broadcast-media talk about someone being "Head of Digital" or "Director of Cyber" oe similar meaningless terms.

BBC used to have someone called "Head of Vision", who was not the person trying to develop future plans directions and strategies for the organisation, but was the person in-charge of TV and visual content.

+1. It's spread from evasive, cowardly corporate-speak where everyone is cowering at the thought of litigation. It's so prevalent now though that opposing it is to take on the mantle of Cnut.

I can't claim to get upset or scream at it but "changed out" and "swapped out" do jar, it's a peculiarly clunky way of saying "changed" or "swapped"! Why add un-necessary verbiage ?

Some tv programmes (seen on hairy bikers cookery recently) deliberately alter the wonderful colour camera image to a grainy monochrome one trying to depict maybe a 1940s cinema film by adding specks, lines and blobs all over it.
Just to make it look ancient.
Why?
Its bad enough with digital tv at times with the received picture freezing or breaking up.
Progress I suppose.

Surely the worst example of verbal manipulation is the word "challenge". Loyal corporate types apparently never have "problems", but just "challenges".

I agree.
Also the promotional baggage for listen again services of Radio4 programs is introduced with a sound effect like a compact disc with a great big greasy thumb print on it. To me it just says digital and frustrating.

The need to add what purports to be a sound spectrum over someone speaking in a TV programme (often on the phone)

Hi.

I did that on one occasion but still managed to build the circuit with the ICs fitted to the solder side and the other components on their normal side. It was an odd looking thing but as it was only a prototype it didn't matter. Lesson learnt for next time however.

Radio programmes where they always run severely frequency-limited bass content for some track or another behind the voices of presenters .... As most radio listening is done in cars, lots of people must fear the thumping means something is about to drop off.

The use of the word, "so" , used at the start of an answer to a question ,has been driving me mad in recent years. Also, no-one understands something anymore, but they "get it".

And I was taught that it wasn't a "challenge". No, it's an "opportunity"

Glad I'm out of it all now.
