Re: Sanders plug suffering the effects of damp.
I've heard that nitrate film needs to be handled with care, & once it catches fire it can't be easily be put out.

Re: Sanders plug suffering the effects of damp.
It contains its own oxygen in the "nitrate" bit.
Ammonium nitrate is an "interesting" fertiliser.......

His Dad was a plumber & it was packed with useful things, though often stored in unlabelled containers. One day I was asked to find something suitable for whatever my friend was making, & while looking through this stuff found an old sweet tin full of powder among similar containers of nut & bolts. My friend quickly told me to put the lid on as he was still soldering & any heat source might set it off!

Re: Sanders plug suffering the effects of damp.
We seem to have lost interest in the Sanders plug and it's predicament. Does anyone have anything to add as a postScript?

Re: Sanders plug suffering the effects of damp.
My recollection is that the plug minus the insulation worked OK in our unshuttered wall socket, but jammed in the shutter when used in an extension lead dad made up that used a shuttered socket, hence its relegation to the odds and ends box, along with wooden BC adaptors and other obsolete stuff that never got dumped.
