Sony EVS 800
I need some advice with this 8mm recorder. It plays for a short while, stops, and the only way to get it to play again is to eject the tape, and start again.
What I need is some advice on what to look for, or perhaps someone whou would take on such a repair. Thanks Stuart |

Re: Sony EVS 800
Hardly vintage I guess...
Many makes of camcorders suffer in a big way for leaking surface mount electrolytic capacitors which can cause all sorts of problems. It it most likely your problem. The cure is to replace literally all these electrolytics, no easy job. I remember years ago I did look at one of these units for somebody (and have a very thick manual stored away) but because of the fiddly nature of them and the capacitor frustration I no longer look at camcorders. You are probably looking at one of the specialist repair dealers and those don't come cheap. Dave |

Re: Sony EVS 800
Hi There,
I think the machine in question was a component VCR using an 8mm front loading mechanism, rather than a camcorder. I wonder if the reel sensors are working properly? Regards Stu |

Re: Sony EVS 800
Hya, this is a VCR rather than a camcorder, it is not mine, it belongs to a customer, I think it is something I may not get involved with. Perhaps he should look for one on ebay, transfer his tapes and run. He needs to transfer a few tapes. Thanks for the coments.

Re: Sony EVS 800
Hello.
The EVS mech is based on Sony's Video 8 camcorder decks. As already stated the alloy surface mounted caps go leaky this is more likely to be the problem, but the reel sensors could be at fault, also the head drum can stall which will give the same symptoms. These are getting on a bit now and I would think an uneconomic repair as some spares are expensive. best of luck. Trevor
