Default "New?" Transformer Laminations

No doubt people will de aware of "E"s and I"s also "U"s and"T"s used in transformer construction , while dismantling an reasonably newish one i found these/this one... see scan
Some one has put some thaught into this as you only need one stamping ,unlike the "E,I,U,andT method that require 2.
any one else seen this method?

I've seen similar, but not quite like this.

The EI stampings can be made such that there is no scrapping of material - all the iron is utilised. It's not always the optimum geometry for maximum performance in a given size envelope, but that is rarely a problem.
