Default mains utility set

I have one of these with damaged speaker cloth. I was thinking of retrieving it from the loft and replacing the cloth. However I think the knobs are wrong they are made of a discoloured matt brittle substance that does not look like bakelite and I was wondering how many types of knob and knob variations the wartime manufacturers used so that hopefully I can improve the appearance of the set if the right knobs come along.

Find out who made it. Ekco or Ultra for example. As they often use the knob types of the manufacturer.

Yes - is there a code at the back of the chassis? (U followed by a one- or two-digit number)? Dozens of different types of knobs were used on these sets: as chipp says, very often they were ones the set's manufacturer had been using for their own production models around the beginning of the war.

Here is a list of WCR manufacturer codes. As has been said, if you determine the origin of your set from this you may be able to find some appropriate knobs.
