Sobell U41 utility receiver valuation
Hi. I'm new, so don't know how thing are done!
I have a 1943 Sobell U41 receiver that my parents had, I'm 86. I wish to sell this item, but cant test as i have osteoarthritis. The cabinet and back panel are all good complete with labels. Can anyone help with a valuation. John Last edited by AC/HL; 3rd Dec 2019 at 1:14 pm. Reason: Forum rules |

Hello John, and welcome.
It would help if you could post a picture or two of the radio. Is it badged Solectric or Sobell (Sobell did use the Solectric trademark at one time) https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=77650 |

Re: Sobell U41 utility receiver valuation
Hi John
I took this to mean that i'ts a wartime civilian (Utility) receiver. U41 was indeed the code for Solectric Ltd. A U9 can be seen on Jon's site here https://www.thevalvepage.com/radios/...s/warmains.htm If so the manufacturer makes little difference unless someone wants this maker. Having said that I don't think I have ever seen a U41 so probably not common. Cheers Mike T

Re: Sobell U41 utility receiver valuation
About £10 to £100 depending on condition, so it is important to see it before a more accurate estimate.
I paid £70 for a U32 one which I was specifically looking for to go in my KB collection. http://www.kbmuseum.org.uk/kb_images/kb_wcr/kb_wcr.htm Mike |

Re: Sobell U41 utility receiver valuation
Sorry I forgot to mention, when I said "condition" I was referring to the external cosmetic condition. The electrical condition is not so important. It is advisable to NOT plug it in to the mains to test it unless it has been restored by an experienced person.

Re: Sobell U41 utility receiver valuation
I agree with Mike about condition the label on top seems to suffer the most
These are very interesting sets of historical interest. Cheers Mike T

Re: Sobell U41 utility receiver valuation
I may be responsible for some confusion. The original post had 'Solectric' in the title and 'Sobell' in the text, without explanation. I edited the title to match the text. Apologies if this confused anybody.
