Default Defiant MSH 248 capacitor question

Hello,
I have recently purchased a Defiant MSH 248 however I cannot find any service info.

The multi section capacitor is 16 and 24uf however I wondered if my assumption is correct that it has a common negative to chassis?

Thank you

It's possible that this Chassis is very similar to the Ultra U502

Might be easier to find a circuit for that one.

Cheers

Almost certainly for nearly any reservoir/smoothing cap in valve sets - they're so often physically bolted to the chassis. And here in the write-up of the related MSH353 Defiant MSH353:// you can clearly see this.

So yep yep!

You're not asking but I hope you can preserve the original, it'll likely reform with a bit of tlc.

Sometimes you will find that some multi section capacitors do not have a negative terminal. In these cases the metal body of the capacitor can itself serves as the negative and the metal clip holding it to the chassis completes the negative connection to chassis.

Thanks,
Peter

Thanks for the response!

however that is what I meant in my original post however I was not sure if the cap had a common negative or positive to chassis

Thank you

In 99% of valve radios, etc., the common return point of Reservoir, Smoothing, and Cathode bypass Electrolytic Capacitors is always negative, and the Negative line is almost always the (metal) chassis. Can-type capacitors fitted to sets with printed circuit boards often have tags on their cans which are soldered to the negative track on the PCB
