Default Ekco U353

Can any one please tell me which is the coupling capacitor on this model. Also what I need to replace it in power and value type etc. If you can please I bought this works OK but I like to replace coupling capacitor I was told it is a good thing to do on an old model

In the manufacturers info its C51

It's often called "that cap"

A 400V 0.01uF I would use a modern Poly Cap

I vaguely remember that this radio uses a ceramic cap in that position - if so, it probably doesn't need changing. Check for +ve volts on pin 2 of the UL84.

They did start to use ceramics but mainly in the RF/IF stages, I think will be a TCC MetalMite type, I.e. paper.
If it is ceramic then yes just test it, if other types then replace, the one in post #2 is fine but it may be an easier fit to use an axial type rather than radial.

I try to avoid radial leads, as they don’t look as nice in vintage hand wired chassis such as this radio.

Howver, the radial leaded type will do, as long as it has a dc working voltage rating of at least 400 Volts.
