Default Can someone identify this Pye radio

Please can you identify this Pye radio.

The design reminds me of a French Suga PR30 radio in terms of the cabinet style and layout. The dial glass was used on a number of sets like MP and MP/40 etc., but a search through RM didn't reveal anything

Hi Alf,

Is it mains or battery? Looks like half of the MP/C.

Pye, one of the most difficult manufacturers to find the model name/number of in the world of vintage wireless.

From the first copy of "Radio Bygones " (The Pye Story" by Geoffrey Dixon-Nuttall ) this radio looks like a Pye RS4, the article says a 4 waveband version of the MP in a different cabinet.

You can at least try and date it from the stations on the dial?
That should help identify the type number as it will probably have a table-model stable mate

Thank you all for your replies.
Thanks especially go to Clive (MurphyNut) for finding a previous post on the RS4 model that has an interesting story attached where a previous owner had fitted a SP41 in place of the VP4B. A bad substitution as an SP41 is not a VM pentode and the valve base fitted on top of the chassis with the original holes visible. Quite why it was done is a mystery as VP4B valves are not particularly rare.

Cheers,
Alf
