Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
I've sent you three components all have which have been tested and found to be good.
C34 replacement 0.01uF 400 Volt. Coupling capacitor. R35 replacement 330R 2W. Cathode resistor. C37 replacement 10uF 25V. Cathode bypass capacitor. Only fit C34 at this time, it can be fitted either way round. The other components may not need to be replaced. You will note that it is a 400 Volt component, but that's more than adequate for a coupling capacitor. Once you've fitted it check that the set is functional and then take DC voltage readings on all pins of V8 except pins 3 and 4 which are the heaters. Post the results here for analysis. You can check the resistance of R35 before fitting C34. Its value should be within 10% of 330R, Expect your meter to take time to settle down to a steady reading as it'll be charging up C37 which is in parallel with R35. I'll be away from home for a few days so I won't be able to respond to your posts as quickly as I've done up to now. If there's a problem with that hopefully another member will be able to assist you.

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
Post 55 Graham you said 600wv so now i fit the 400 wv instead .Is that correct ? If not i will wait for your return .Mind how you go .Trev

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
As Graham said to fit this 400wv instead of the 600WV thats in the receiver now can someone give me the go ahead on this lower value replacment of C34 ..

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
Can i ask? the value of 600wv - 20% = 480 wv Will the 400 wv capacitor Graham so kindly posting out to me be ok to fit ?. I read some place rule of thumb is to go above the value but not below .

As stated in #62. A 400 Volt replacement is adequate for C34.

I have one more question to ask . I have a few rells of solder and its dark on the outside like lead goes after time . This solder is not cheap as we all know .Can i clean it in any way . Or dump it ,.

Lawrence how about if the capacitor was + or - 10% ? Would that capacitior be better ?

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
It won't make much difference in that circuit position, 20%, 10%, 5% etc either will do.

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
Nice to know that . Lawrence .
Looking at the RF gain potentiometer i find this is a replacment pot . I would like to replace this also . Someone who owned it before me fitted a double gang pot and wired up one part . As you use the RF you have to turn it on fully ,well for most bands other than AM . Then as you turn it up it then goes through this click part till its fully on .I can see one on ebay its a log type pot . But in the schematic for the receiver it gives no value only that its a 10k along with a ohm sign . Do i need the watage value for this ?. |

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
So far as I can make out from the manual it's 10k with a "C" track law which would make it a reverse log pot, if you can't source one of them I would fit a 10k lin. I wouldn't worry too much about the wattage rating.

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
Second thought's on the wattage rating after having another look at pics and the schematic, at least 1/2 watt possibly 1 watt....Not absolutely sure.

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
The C34 c/c 400wv along with two more came to-day and i would like to thank Graham for his quick response to post these c/ capacitors to me free of charge .
The forum members have been so helpfull . This is the second member to post to me free of charge a part that i needed . I fitted the C34 capacitor and the receiver is working as normal along with the hum So i took more readings from v8 pins 1 /2/ 5/ 6/ 7. Results---- Pin 1 = zero voltage Pin 2 = zero voltage Pin 5 = 215 volts ac Pin 6 = 120 volts ac Pin 7 = zero voltage So i can now see there is a low voltage on pin 6 . I have been reading lots of forum posts,, and in one of them , and it was either David or Grahams posts that the extra valve no [9] that is fitted takes voltage from v8 .I then removed the extra valve as the post said. Re checked v8 and it made no differance to the low voltage on pin 6 |

Re: Trio 9R-59D receiver problems.
Would like to sort this out . Will the low DC voltage on pin 6 be a problem . Sould both pins 5 and 6 be up in the 200v DC range.
