Default My Crystal Radio

This is the circuit of my fixed tuned simple crystal radio to receive a 200kW local broadcast station on 612kHz.

Parts required are a pair of sensitive balanced-armature headphones, a moulded inductor and any germanium transistor with its base and emitter shorted.

With a long wire antenna and water-pipe earth, reception is loud enough to be heard faintly even at a distance from the headphones.

The don't come any simpler than that! Not sure you shouldn't check radiation levels from your local transmitter though, might be bad for your health!

Hi Johnyjf,

Thanks! No problem, the transmitter is 25 km away.

Regards,

Nandu.
