Default Low voltage soldering iron temperature control .

Most soldering irons these days are temperature controlled ,but in days of yore (and especially with those low voltage ones provided by certain organisations) this was a novelty. These irons were great for a quick joint, but if used for periods of time ,the tip burnt away. I found for project work, that the temperature control from an old household iron ( as used by SWIMBO ,to put fancy creases in/out of clothes) worked a treat. Wire the control in series with the supply (DO NOT TRY THIS ON A MAINS IRON), and when iron not in use, use the fixing hole in the control as a resting place for tip. Bit Heath Robinson, but I found it worked. Once the tip was taken out, it heated rapidly .
