Video Arcade Games
Hiya
Just wondered if there was anyone on here who (like me) collects full-size 1970's-1980's video arcade machines (Space Invaders, PacMan, etc, etc). Alan

Re: Video Arcade Games
Would love to have the space and cash to do so ...but I just have to enjoy emulators instead

Re: Video Arcade Games
Yup...Space, it really IS the final frontier!
Still, I've managed to fit around 30-odd machines in at home!

Re: Video Arcade Games
If I had the room, and one turned up, I guess I'd be tempted by a pucka Mr. Do or a Defender machine. Mind you, the Mame emulator's Mr. Do is spot on, so maybe a small PC bunged in a quarter-scale model would fit the bill.
Just how rare (or not) are the originals ? |

Re. Mr Do and Defender...
Neither particularly, but I would say that a decent Mr. Do is probably the less common of the two (Defenders are all over the place). However, Defnder will always command more £££. Prices have dropped a lot recently, so Defenders: £350 - £1K and Mr. Do: £200 - £500. Of course you can also occasionally turn them up super-cheap or free!

Re: Video Arcade Games
I have just had to sell an Afterburner Deluxe (the sit in one), to make some room at work, It had sat in a field for two years so it took a bit of restoring. I am also restoring an Operation wolf machine. Apart from that I just have two mid 80's Electrocoin cabs (JS type and a Goliath), and a very large pile of working and non working PCB's. Among these are Gorf, Space Invades (shame it's just the board) and Galaxian boards to name just a few.

You're not the chap who was on the TV prog the other day about storage units are you?
He had a storage unit with about 20 games in it. Looked great. |

Re: Video Arcade Games
No, but he's a friend of mine!
Most of my machines are either in my gamesroom or workshop...there are only a few in storage (at the moment). However, I'm currently looking to buy an early '90's W-Industries/Virtuality 1000CS or 1000SD, so that's going to have a HUGE impact on space!

Re: Video Arcade Games
No PCB (but regret the time I didn't take a fully working Battlezone for free a few years ago!).
I have a couple of pinball machines (have had about 10 over the years from electromechanical to transistor to computerised), and a 1961 Seeburg Jukebox. They take up alot more space than the radios, but all give good service. I keep my eyes peeled for an original Star Wars but am dis-inclined to pay current prices. Kneale |

Re: Video Arcade Games
Yup...Star Wars certainly commands a premium. I used to have a cockpit a few years ago. Silly money.

Re: Video Arcade Games
A former colleague of mine used to work for a well-known slot machine rental company and told me he was contracted to replace loads of eproms in a particular fruit machine (a Maygay something..?) after a disgruntled engineer had written a free play routine into one model before leaving the company! Wonder if they missed any?
