Ultra 25RG (1935)
Getting a large quantity of 78's spurred me on to restoring this lovely old radiogram.
Following on from this thread: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ltra+radiogram I removed the chassis after removing the entire top plate complete with turntable, fished out pieces of broken dial glass from the top of the chassis and got to work. I then set about replacing all the old caps, I made the decision not to bother restuffing the remaining originals but have kept them for other projects. There was a date of 1972 on a couple of the replacement caps, so this set must had had a long service life! The original resistors were still in tolerance, so were left in place. When I got the set, not only was the dial glass smashed but the dial itself was badly damaged in the centre. Many thanks to Ian B who kindly sent me a replacement dial. This was carefully cleaned and fitted, as were two new dial bulbs. The cabinet was in reasonable condition, so just needed a good clean and polish with scratch cover. The large mains energised speaker just needed a good going over with a paintbrush to remove decades of dust. I really like this old gram, it is a nice size and fits in the lounge well. I love the deco styling, it is just a shame I only have room for one! |

Well done Mork, excellent result. 1930s Ultra stuff may not be exciting, but a lot of it is attractively styled, and it's well made and works well.

Re: Ultra 25RG (1935)
That looks immaculate, the cabinet has such very strong '30s influences. I particularly like the contrast between the chrome dial surround and the black motorboard. Not a huge radiogram, I think most of us would like to make room for one of these.

Re: Ultra 25RG (1935)
I am glad everyone likes it
I am now very pleased I bought it, size-wise it is perfect for the limited space I have. I have spent the last couple of evenings sorting through a large box of 78's bought for £2 at a car boot sale. There is some real gems in there, mostly dating between the early thirties to the late forties. Even some of the record sleeves are worthy of note, here is one of my favourites. Mark |

Re: Ultra 25RG (1935)
OOOOW! It's got a 'tuneon'. Without doubt Teddy Rozen's team designed the best looking radiograms of the 1930's period. Ensure the pick up damping is in good condition. If stiff the sound quality is much reduced and record wear is heavy. Nice job. John.

That's a lovely job. It might just motivate me to start on my '22.
