Default NVCF 2008 - 11th May

2008? We haven't even finished with 2007 yet! An advance announcement of the special exhibition at NVCF 2008. http://www.nvcf.org.uk/

The exhibition at NVCF 2008 will be mechanical music. Music boxes, polyphons, disc boxes, musical toys, roller organs etc. If we're lucky we may even have a fairground organ or two outside the hall. I will be working closely with the Music Box Society of Great Britain (MBSGB) and kindred organisations such as MOOS, BOGA, FOPS, PPG (Mechanical Organ Owners Society, British Organ Grinders Association, Fairground Organ Preservation Society, Player Piano Group).

I know that Ian M and myself are PPG members. It would be good to hear from forum members who are also members of any of the other organisations.

I very much look forward to it. Although I do not own anything in this line (apart from a bedside lamp consisting of a bottle which plays Blue Danube when you lift it up), I love listening to (and watching) these mechanisms in action.

The stall booking form for the 11th May 2008 NVCF is now on the NVCF website.

Copies will be posted to 2007 stallholders shortly and will also be included in the Christmas 2007 BVWS Bulletin.

Time for an update. NVCF2008 is only 3 weeks away on Sunday 11th May. As usual there will be lots of stalls selling everything you can imagine and maybe a few things you can't.

The special exhibit of Mechanical Music will be in the display area under the mezzanine. There will be music boxes, roller organs and much more. There will also be a large fairground organ playing outside to entertain you on the way in and out.

If the last time you came to the NVCF was when it was in Birmingham please remember that car parking is free and close to the hall.

If you've booked a stall you should be getting your tickets very soon.

Dave Moll will be running the bring and buy stall. If you've got just a few items to sell this is the place to do it with just 10% commission. If you want to be generous to the Vintage Wireless Museum then you can donate items to be sold on the B&B stall. 100% of proceeds will go to the Museum.

I'll be helping Dave when I can but I'm sure he'll appreciate other offers.

Look forward to seeing lots of you there.

Yes please, especially around opening time when there will be people queuing up to register their items.

The optimum number of people on the stall is two most of the time, but one is fine at slacker periods.

I'll see what I can manage, Dave. It depends on what time we get there, and we will have to leave at about 14:30 at the latest, so time is of the essence.

If I can manage to get around all the stalls, stop drooling over Jeffrey's exhibit and have some munch, there will be two of us to help.

Does anyone know if the shuttle bus will run from the station this year? I've e-mailed twice to ask, but had no reply.

Perhaps it would be a good idea for people to wear a badge with their forum name to identify themselves. (And maybe also their proper name too.) I haven't been to the NVCF for several years but I may make the short trip this time. If I can pluck up the courage.

I usually do, Mike. My forum name is the same as my 'real' one - the advantage being that I only have one name to remember!

Will be good to see you there and fit another face to a name.

Likewise, my forum name is the name to which I'm known to the outside world. My badge also has a reproduction of my forum avatar.

Will there be any vintage TVs on display? That will certainly encourage me to come along .. and Brum isn't all that far away from me either

There will be no formal display of vintage TVs. That event was at NVCF 2006 when we assembled an impressive collection of sets from 1936 to the 1960s. Possibly the largest such exhibit in modern times. (The other contenders were 1986 at the Royal Festival Hall and around 1990 at Harpenden).

Various stallholders will have TVs for sale as usual.

It would be great to do another TV exhibit at a future NVCF, possibly to coincide with a notable aniversary.

It hasn't been in Birmingham for several years. I think the Warwick Exhibition Centre is even closer to you.

They should be available at the event if there are still some left (they were at last year's event). You may want to call or email Graham during the week to confirm.
