SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
This VLF museum station, with its marvellous Alexanderson alternator, is due to transmit tomorrow (May 1st) morning with tune-up at 1030 BST for transmission at 1100. This follows a lengthy intermission from the accustomed Christmas Eve and end of June transmissions.

Just as long as they don't send 'May Day'

Re: SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
Oh good. I heard the last Christmas Eve transmission just above the noise. I've made some improvements since then, so fingers crossed! Thanks.

Re: SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
Success! Just above the noise on the Wellbrook loop (which is working well below its lowest specified frequency) but better on my homebrew tuned but un-amplified loop. I don't know how long the TX was, but I lost it at approx 11:05.

Re: SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
Thanks for the information. I listened on utwente sdr and also watched the live video stream on YouTube. It was good to see the operator sending the morse in the transmission hall. Unfortunately my radios only receive down to 30kHz. Pity it was over so soon.

Re: SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
Damn!! Here I am in Sweden and I meant to listen for this.
As a traveller it would have been a bodge up but I had a lab full of very nice gear to use for it. Too busy - I forgot... |

Re: SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
I heard them around 10:45 BST it sounded as though they were drifting slightly in frequency but then the problem was corrected and it was nice and stable. Had to QSY just after 11:00 AM as our club has an 80 meter net Tuesday morning

Re: SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
You got it all Andrew it ended approx 11:05. I watched the live streaming.
Success here too, using Spectrum Lab a preamp/buffer and and random wire laying in a plastic gutter on the north side of my house. just above the noise but audible.

Re: SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
I got an e-mail from my mate over in Wales. He says it was like a ton of bricks with him and the audio file he sent me certainly backs that up. Everyone I know struggles to hear SAQ but in this recording it is as clear as a bell!
Hmm, seems I can't attach audio files.....

Re: SAQ Grimeton (Varberg) 17.2kHz
I'll be using an SDRPlay RSP2 receiver with my latest LF active loop. My Wellbrook can actually hear it, but its response is well down at 17 KHz and I'm hoping my LF-optimised version will be better.
