Pye PocketFone crystal spec?
Does anyone have the crystal details and spec for the xtals for the pf1 and pf9? Looking for the series or parallel spec, capacitive loading etc?

Re: Pye PocketFone crystal spec?
PF1 TX is fundamental ~12MHz so parallel and 30pF loading is probably OK.
Fx=Ftx/36 RX is 5th Overtone ~85MHz and series resonant. Fx= (Frx-10.7)/5 PF9 is much more difficult - AFC on RX and direct FM on TX means the pulling characteristics matter. I think they are 3rd overtone and series resonant but there is more to it than that. Due to the AFC you can't swap sides with the LO, it has to be Fc-10.7MHz. If you try Fc+10.7 the AFC runs away from the signals. Been there tried that. Last edited by Jon_G4MDC; 6th Sep 2019 at 2:14 pm. |

Re: Pye PocketFone crystal spec?
After a little bit more checking of the facts...
PF8 (RF same as PF9 I'm sure you know) uses ~48MHz crystals. These are 3rd overtone and series resonant to the best I know. Transmitter Fx=Ftx/9 Receiver Fx = (Frx-10.7)/9 I might have a handbook somewhere which would give the Pye crystal spec. That would read something like T36S or some such. If you have crystals already fitted in the Green & Red frequency modules there is a good chance it is stamped on them. Hy-Q next to Whittlesford Station knew what those specs meant in terms of oscillator loading and pulling. It is possible that Quartslab know them too - I know for sure they have the PF1 information and have made very many. Some frequencies used to be stocked. I don't know what they know about PF8 & 9. Re: Pye PocketFone crystal spec?
I'm sure that I have a pair of PF1 spec crystals for 70cm somewhere here abouts, if they might help in some way?

Yes if you want to sell them I might be interested.

Re: Pye PocketFone crystal spec?
Here is what I have...
A pair for SU20, a pair for 452.850, One for HO56 and a TX for HO77. May have matching pairs if I look a bit harder. Not sure what the unlabeled ones are. I also have a pair for an MF6AM on 70.260, although I appreciate they are no use for the PF1. |
