Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Incredible stuff!
The cables and connectors need to be directional as otherwise you might " go clear around the bend"? The supplier has won The Queens award for Industry too, it seems! Can we assume that Her Majesty employ's these cables in "ones own hi-fi"? Another example of "a 'phool and his money are easily parted"? Nick |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I think that the Queen's Award For Industry relates to the company's financial performance, and does not imply that anything is actally supplied to the Royal Household. It is Royal Warrants that are awarded to businesses that supply things to the Royals.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
FWIW I use this stuff, used by the km in professional audio gear (such as recording studios and outside broadcast) for the princely sum of £1.82 per metre.
I use it with Nutrik XLR connectors https://www.canford.co.uk/CANARE-L-4...BLE-Deployable And I'm pretty certain it is not directional ;-) Eat your heart out Nordost. Craig |

But it hasn't got a cotton outer braid to stop the information leaking out!
It can only sound good to people who know the difference between differential and common modes. David

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
50% of all ECC83 will test above average
It's just the way maths/statistics works. But without him having got results of every test, how does he know where the average is? David

Now, now David,
It's all hyperbole really isn't it? I've been at it 60 odd years and still don't know what average is, me probably! John |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Craig et al,
As far as audio was concerned I/we used Belden 8541, which, buying in large quantities ie 10s of km, cost about 10-20p/metre (1999- 2005 prices) John |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Ask the seller whether they are quoting mean, median or mode. That should confuse them.

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
There are cables, and then there are 'cables'. But why have a dull old passive cable when you can have a powered one ? And if you're going to go for powered then you'd want valve-powered wouldn't you ?
Well, your luck is in ... https://www.auralthrillsaudio.com/t2.htm Cheers, GJ

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I see they have been awarded a Queen's Award for Enterprise
Their prices are indeed rather enterprising. There are no signs of any awards for science, engineering, or exports, though. The first one Craig pointed to has more than a passing resemblance to my bike lock. David

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Looks quite grotesque really- I know it doesn't bear materially on performance, but surely they could have at least attempted to give a boutique item a bit of constructional elegance? It wouldn't take any more time or effort at assembly to do a teensy bit of lead-dressing. The mains wiring ought to be in conformal colours, not to mention competently connected and sleeved. Goodness, they found some green/yellow wire for the signal common, why not swap it with the black stuff they used for mains earth....

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Seems we are wrong!!
Not ONE born every minute, more like ten born every minute. Do they actually earn that much money?, or does the bank in fact own the cable?. I have watched cables get really silly in price, AND am really amazed that some people are really sucked in by the rubbish spiel. I use 3 different types of screened cable, varying in size and cost. They ALL screen very well in fact. Top to bottom: standard cable, nice and thin for switches. medium cable, its quite solidly made but very flexible, works OK for microphones. idiot cable, works the same as the other two, UNLESS you connect it backwards, which results in a dead short. In fact they are all very nice cables. 100 mtrs of small = $22. 100 mtrs of medium $42 50 mtrs idiot cable $79 Perhaps I am missing something?. Joe |

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
I find it ever so slightly amusing that the power box for the 'Valve-powered active cable' seems to be wired up internally with crude, non-directional hook-up wire.
It's probably full of oxygen, too. David

Re: The Audiophoolery Thread.
Definitely.
Your black cables are perfect for formal orchestral music (bow tie shaped cable supports advised), and also heavy metal and goth stuff. The pink cable will take care of romantic music for you. Also girl bands. What you are missing is snot green for punk, and blue for boy bands/sea shanties. This hifi lark is quite easy once you start to get the hang of it. Brown must be for listening to classic Blaster Bates LPs. David
