100 volt transistors
hi all
can someone please suggest cheap and readily available transistors with at least a 100 volt Vceo to replace a BC456/556 pair. They are used as simple switches in a homebrew 48V solar charger/controller, but my panels go up to 72V unloaded Many thanks Last edited by ITAM805; 16th Mar 2015 at 12:57 pm. |

Re: 100 volt transistors
My ECA equivalence book lists the BC456 as a 30V transistor and the BC556 as an 80V one.

Re: 100 volt transistors
Sorry Colin, I was editing as you were posting! See above edit. I thought they were both 65V?

Re: 100 volt transistors
Have a look inside the 'bulge' of any dead Compact Fluorescent bulb; there's usually at leatr one decently voltage-rated bipolar transistor in there, and when the bulbs die it's rarely the transistor's fault.

Re: 100 volt transistors
PNP 2N5401G RS 625-4859 ~50p for 5
NPN 2N5550G RS 544-9955 ~20p ea Look suitable and cheap enough. CPC will do a ZTX653/753 pair for about a quid.

Re: 100 volt transistors
ZTX453 / ZTX553, small plastic E-line transistors but with 1A capability, hopefully ideal.

Re: 100 volt transistors
I agree, check out the Zetex ((now Diodes I think) range; they will have somat suitable

Re: 100 volt transistors
Hi ZTX453 & 553 were specifically designed as drivers, just right for your application and not expensive.

Re: 100 volt transistors
Many thanks chaps.
I went for the ZTX653/753 suggested by Chris and got 5 of each for £3.70 incl. from Little Diode |
