Anyone seen one of these radios before?
Hi. I am not sure if I posted something about RAS radios before. Also if I did there was no photograph of it available, but the cafe owners in Leeds let me take a photograph of it, so here it is in its glory.

At first glance it looks Scandinavian. Can you make a bigger photo of the scale, please.

Re: Anyone seen one of these radios before
Shame we cannot see the chassis, I have a RAS set that is actually a Strad (somewhat simplified) re-badged. Strad did put at least one of their chassis in a wooden cabinet see here

The dial is very reminiscent of the R.A.P.S one . Mick.

Re: Anyone seen one of these radios before?
Well done re your "find" Mike and the prompt Lawrence Link. Paul RK, Radiograham and myself were on the Boater Sam thread titled Seymour Products [Ashton] in 12/3/16. I was always fascinated by the strange Seymour story as outlined there and the fact that a Walsh joined them as an engineer from Ferranti in Oldham. The time I'd spent living in Dukinfield [near Ashton] 1971-4, also peaked my interest. I'm not quite sure what led you to think your set might be a Seymour Radiograham. Was it something said at the Golborne Meet? The build quality is similar to the Seymour Radiogram though [mentioned post 6] that I still have, ie not very impressive!

Re: Anyone seen one of these radios before?
Hi Dave and everyone. The dial is marked RAS, and I was once informed that it meant "Rent a Set". It must be late 1940's it has I.O Valves, but there are no other signs of i.d internally. I could not get around to taking internal photographs with it being in a cafe(in Leeds city centre).

Re: Anyone seen one of these radios before?
I had a very similar set a few years ago which fell apart due to woodworm etc - the makers name on that was Allendale.

Re: Anyone seen one of these radios before?
Another clue perhaps Pilot? Makes me think of Robin Hood [ie Alan a Dale!] Graham apologies, I think I might have confused myself there at post 7*]. You weren't on the Boater Sam thread [2016] but you did start one in 2018 [linked in by Lawrence]. So when you mentioned Seymour there, what was it that made you think there could be a connection with Seymour? Or was it just a hunch of some sort

Re: Anyone seen one of these radios before?
Hi.
Just a hunch about Seymour at the time nobody could ID my radio which was bought at Golborne, I was surprised to see the pic from Leeds, my set has no markings on the dial or anywhere but I would say it is the same. Do you know if RAS were in Leeds or is that where this set has ended up? Graham. |

The radio is the property of a cafe in Leeds. It attracts a lot of customers who view it when they are in there. Cheers Mike |
