Hello Claus. I can highly recommend the Royal Signals Museum at Blandford in Dorset www.army.mod.uk/signals/museum (it's inside the army camp so you need ID)..in the same area is Bovington tank Museum www.tankmuseum.org/home and if you need some lighthearted/family entertainment try Monkey World just accross the road www.monkeyworld.co.uk Have a wonderful time in the UK.

Nobody has mentioned the Black Country Museum near Dudley in the West Midlands. Here are working exhibits of heavy enginering and at least a day is needed to see it all.
The other non radio must is the Ironbridge Museum in Shropshire about 40 miles NW of Birmingham. This is where the worlds first cast iron bridge is and the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in this country. You won`t do that in a day either!!

I think Claus is going to need a very long holiday and a very deep pocket!
However, he should enjoy it.

Hi Claus. How about the radio and television museum at the High Lighthouse in Harwich, Essex for a visit ? There is also a section on the offshore radio stations that once were broadcasting off the east coast. I am not sure on the opening times.

Living in Bradford, naturally it's a long time since I visited the National Media Museum .
I called in today and was pleasantly surprised at the television exhibit. Everything from Baird's original transmitter to Colour TV. Cameras, studio equipment and probably 20-30 405 receivers. There's a studio set you can join in, and a working radio station (BBC radio Leeds)

I am touring the Scottish Highlands and crossing over to Orkney for my summer holiday this year, and by sheer luck, I have discovered that there is a radio museum in Orkney: The Orkney Wireless Museum in Kirkwall which even has its own unique amateur call sign - GB2 OWM. I'll report back to UK Vintage Radio on my return.
Cheers

The Pitstone Green Museum in Buckinghamshire (near Tring) is an unlikely one.

Nominally a museum of rural life, but has vintage wireless and WW-II technology displays including a reconstruction of part of a Lancaster with some of the navigation aids actually in working condition.

The Design Museum on the Southbank in London has radio/technical content. I've noticed mention of the Amberley museum in West Sussex. This is so much more than just a radio venue. Well worth the trip, especially if you have general industrial/electrical interests. The ticket used to be valid for two or three days to accomodate it's size. Working back through Brighton, Seaford has a radio museum in a Martello Tower [but I've not got there yet]. Newhaven Fort has a purpose built amateur radio centre that includes a very interesting display and the Hastings Museum includes a John Logie Baird room! Dave W

Of interest to Claus, Ray or anyone else venturing north this summer, The Radiophile [delivered today] highlights The Museum of Communication High Street Burntisland Fyfe established 1973. It now has a "vast collection" showing how "Great Scots" pioneered photography/radar/television-in fact everything! Sean already mentioned Bletchley Park at the top of the thread but August 1st and 2nd could be a good time to visit this year as Radiophile says there will be a major "Wireless Waves" event that weekend. Correction-John [Wireful] has pointed out that I'm getting my radio mags mixed up. It was Radio Bygones that arrived today not Radiophile but I won't hesitate to declare them both essential reading! Thanks John. Dave W

In the Shropshire town of Craven Arms, there is the fascinating "Museum of Lost Content" which contains household items from the last century, including a reasonable radio and TV display. Please accept my apologies for the quality of the attached images, which were taken on my mobile phone during a recent visit. The exhibits are not brightly lit!
