Default KG1 and 16K9 substitutes

What would be best to use as substitutes for these diodes and all other diodes in a Mk11 Avo VCM.

Have you read the excellent article by Euan MacKenzie in Radio Bygones #134 Cristmas 2011 or the excellent article by Gary Tempest in Radiophile Summer 2000?

Repairs and restorations of the AVO Mk I & II are discussed there and the diodes are discussed in detail.

Soft recovery diodes like the BYW96E (now obsolete) are recommended there - the equivalent to BYW96E is BYT78 according to Vishay.

Thanks Martin. Will get both the articles and study them. I have some BYW96E
diodes so can use them.

I have found a copy of Radiophile Summer 2000 but I am unable to download a copy of Radio Bygones 134 from their site. Get as far as a copy in my shopping basket but payment system does not function. Anyone out there with a hard copy they could sell me?

Original capacitors C2 and C3 in my AVO MK11 are 0.1uf I presume replacing them with the specified 0.05uf will be OK.
